The Jim Hashimoto award recognizes significant contribution to the Digistar User Group.

Jim graduated from the University of Utah in computer science, Magna Cum Laude and was a Senior Software Engineer at Evans & Sutherland between 1984-1995 and worked on the original Digistar and Digistar II systems. After leaving E&S, Jim started his own business (Hashimoto Consulting) based on support Digistar users around the world.

Jim passed away 29 December 2009 from a stroke. He was married with two daughters and a son.

Jim's greatest joy was his family. He devoted most of his time in service to them, coaching their numerous sporting activities. He was also personally active in sports where he made lifelong friends and influenced many with his leadership. He was an avid tennis player, gardener, fisherman, and hunter, excelling in everything he did.

Jim was widely known across the Digistar community for his technical skills and ability to help people with hardware and software problems. There are many stories of Jim renting a van and picking up parts in one corner of America and driving cross country with stops at planetariums along the way to make updates and help out.

Jim had a true love for astronomy and for Digistar. He was able to use his skills to help others maximize the sometimes hidden features of Digistar.
